2018: The Year That May Be

With 2017 ready to pass into the annals of history, and 2018 poised to exit the future and enter the present, let's take a look at what my year might look like at this time next year.

These aren't resolutions, but things I'd like to try, do, complete, or accomplish during 2018. But I'll let @rambo and @missy think they are resolutions.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I'm a better photographer now that I was at the beginning of 2017, but there's always something more to learn.

-- Continue shooting with models. I'm certain I'll continue working with Damsel Doll and Kraigen in 2018, but I'm also hoping to work with some new people (some local, some visiting, and maybe some if I travel) in 2018.

-- Continue going out on landscape and wildlife shoots: Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Desert National Wildlife Refuge, Great Basin National Park, Cathedral Gorge State Park, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Lake Tahoe, Clark County Wetlands Park, Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, and more.

-- During the hot summer months, schedule shoots at night or at cooler places: Mt. Charleston, Lake Tahoe, city lights at night (from a distance and close up), astrophotography, light painting, and more.

-- Continue improving my skills with post-processing, artificial lighting, directing models, and more.

-- Continue building my photography business: find other professionals, makeup artists, hair stylists, body painters, etc., to work with as needed, find new models to work with, attract more people to support me on Patreon, purchase my photography services and packages, and purchase merchandise from my online store.

TRAVEL

Mrs. DeadGuitarist and I have already started talking about what we want to do during the 2018 holidays. Maybe a cruise. Nothing definitive, but right now it looks like we'll go somewhere, just the two of us, for the holidays next year.

I've been playing around on SkyScanner lately, just to see where I could go for a really cheap weekend in 2018. I'm hoping I can take a few short cheap weekend trips around the US in 2018 to photograph cities, landscapes, people... anything.

MEDICAL

I've had a sore right shoulder since November 2016. It's probably been injured for far longer than that. I have a partially torn rotator cuff, partially torn bicep tendon, and a partially torn/frayed labrum. I went through a few weeks of physical therapy. I don't think it helped much. My shoulder hurt more after completing PT than it did when I started PT. I got a steroid/cortisone shot in early December, three weeks ago. It's starting to wear off already. So, I hope to get this shoulder fixed sometime this year. It'll mean surgery, but hopefully the VA can do arthroscopic surgery on it, like it's done most everywhere else. Even if they can, the recovery time is several months, including physical therapy. I just want it to not hurt all the time.

I say this every year, but I really need to exercise more often and eat better so I can lose some weight and get my daily glucose level and my A1C back into the normal range.

MUSIC

Because my shoulder hurts almost all the time, I haven't been playing my guitars and practicing. After about 30 minutes, my shoulder starts aching quite badly. Once my shoulder is taken care of and healed, I want to get back to playing my guitars.

@littlejohn22, we went on a cruise in 2005 for our 10th anniversary even though it was a year and a half late. It was a 7 day cruise to the Mexican Riviera with ports of call in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. We sailed with Princess Cruises on the Sapphire Princess. My wife contracted Norovirus the 2nd day of the cruise and was quarantined to our room for 24 hours, but the doctor didn’t follow up on time to release her and she ended up quarantined for 2 days. To make matters worse, the toilet in our room kept breaking, which as terrible since she wasn’t allowed to leave the room. We also think there was a period of time when our stateroom door wasn’t locking, leaving all our stuff unprotected. So my wife did not have a very enjoyable cruise. I did though. While it was interesting disembarking and seeing the sights at each port of call (Cabo was the best, but we only got to stay half a day), I enjoyed the sailing days more... relaxing, swimming, hot tub, hitting up the bars, playing bingo and what not. They aren’t cheap, but if you price it out per day (without alcohol purchases), it’s comparable to most other vacations. I didn’t think my wife would want to go on another cruise after this experience, but she suggested it, so we will see.
