Today, I was contacted via Instagram by a representative of PaidCastings.com with an offer to join their site as a freelance photographer. Here's the messages I received
Sounds like a great opportunity. I looked at the website. It's similar to Model Mayhem and ModelBlissNet. Where they are different is that they don't just cater to photographers, models, videographers, agents, producers, makeup artists, retouchers, hair stylists, bodypainters, etc. They also include musicians, tanning salons, mobile tanning, bridal planners/coordinators, beauty salons, wardrobe stylists, bartenders, chefs & caterers, tattoo artists & tattoo studios, web designers, graphic artists, florists, venues available for rent, and any other vendors. Anyone can join, apparently for free.
Even though joining isn't all that special, I feel somewhat special to be asked to join. So I will accept their offer and join. Why not? I've got nothing to lose. I can accept or decline any gig. They will pay for travel and lodging on any gig that isn't in Las Vegas, so I could end up traveling to some new, cool places almost for free. I could get paid for the gig as well (they have some "advertisements" on their instagram telling anyone interested to DM them with info and rates). And they heavily promote people online and in social media.
The worst thing that can happen is they don't live up to their promise to pay for travel and lodging, which I have the ability to pay for if it happens. Once burned, twice shy. But then they would not be successful if they didn't follow through. So, it seems like a no lose opportunity.
Stay Tuned...
