State of the website address, August 2013
So I kick around the Silliness board quite often.
I don't really contribute much because my social awkwardness and frequent inability to express myself coherently has a tendency to express itself even on the internet.
However, there was always a lot of funny, goofy shit there that put a smile on my face.
This updated site coming up has certainly shit all over that.
A ton of the people who regularly posted there have disappeared (whether they left on their own accord or if they were forced out due to their frequent and loud objections, I don't know) and now it's hours in between posts, if not days. Posts have gotten more frequent over the last few days, but damn.
I don't like the new site format. At all. I would not pay to be on a site that uses that flashy looking chaotic mess that's hard to navigate. It's just not for me, especially since I have no desire to use this site on my fucking phone. I'm all about simple interfaces that allow the content to shine, and this feels like lipstick on a pig.
I do, however, understand why the site is updating to this format.
It's an unfortunate reality that this is a business, but it really is.
The staff has to keep up to date with what the market currently wants to attract new customers and in doing so will inevitably alienate a portion of their current customer base.
Nothing in that justification means that the community that formed here will understand or not feel dismissed by management that they feel has forgotten about them. It makes the community feel unheard, cheapened and insulted.
I'm not terribly active on this site (I'm here a lot, but I don't say much), so I won't be missed, but many of the people I've seen disappear have had long standing memberships and are very active. It seems sad that there's no evidence of trying to find some common ground to try to keep loyal customers instead of favouring a new, younger demographic. I say that because the rumour is that any real criticism of the new site is resulting in posts being removed and memberships severed (people keep saying "zot," so maybe that's internet lingo for this happening? I don't know, I'm 33 years old and don't use slang very often).
Sometimes progress just sucks.

shaine:
So does that mean you're gone for good? That fucking sucks. Yeah, the format will change but the site will still be the same. It's changed SO much since I've been on here and I've learned to just adapt. Ain't so hard! It's just the internet, after all.
