Friday night I went to see Veruca Salt by myself. I had just found out as I went into work that same day that they were even going to go there. So, right after work, I head to La Zona Rosa and caught the show.
It was exceptional, even with the minor technical difficulties. It was kind of strange, when you consider my history of being a fan of this band. I remember the first time I heard of them in '94, where I was, what time of night it was, and what Kurt Loder said about them in his little MTV News brief. I remember I bought their Minty Fresh release first album very shortly after that, just based on that short clip that was played on MTV. I remember putting the album on repeat and just falling in love with their voices, every note, every beat on the drum. Sure, there was the weird look from my friends when I had no qualms about freely admitting one of my favorite bands were half female, and I thought they rocked purer than any of the bullshit they droned on about.
I remember being devastated when Nina left the band, then later relieved that Resolver was just fine without her.
I have had a 10+ year crush on this band, and seeing them on Friday was like a part of me was completed.
I seriously hope they come back before another five years pass.
