first cd purchase of the year, yesterday - The Strokes, .First Impressions of Earth
Got the posh die cut digipak version. Front cover reminds me of a teenage boy's duvet cover - red, grey, black zzzzz. But hey you can replace it with one of the cards of each individual band member, hmmmm.
I've only had chance to listen a couple of times, but it starts out like the Cars, late 70s/early 80s new wave. Everyone seems to be thinking very carefully about what they're doing rather than being instinctive - very fiddly drum patterns etc .( also reminded me of Barry Manilow and Englebert Humperdink in places - serious!!) Seemed to run out of steam about half way through and sounded kinda like the first album again.
Nice lyric booklet features art by Ramos, Glaser, Rembrandt and richard phillips' scout - the full length version of which would makegreat inspiration for an SG set.
