Gonna start mixing a song by my friends band, Fuzzy Substrate, today. I'm using that to play with Digital Performer and learn about some of the new OSX features on this new release. Gonna also play with some new EQ plug-ins and learn the functionality of the Mackie control surface.
Jury is still out about whether I'm producing and engineering that HipHop album this month. Gotta talk to the artists manager and see if they're ready to start up.
Reading....gym....music...haircut...blue sky.
Due to slummy's ?'s here's the explanation...
EQ Plugin = a software based add-on in an audio signal chain that adjusts the tonal, spectral character of a sound that passes through it...much like the treble, bass knobs on your stereo...this is just software based and a lot more flexible and powerful.
OSX = Operating System 10 for (in my case) an Apple G4
Mackie Univeral Control Surface = an external mechanical means of controlling my audio recording software through the use of sliders, knobs and buttons. Move the hardware slider on the Mackie Control and it moves the software slider on the screen. Engineers use these to simulate the feel of using a real hardware mixing board when they are actually mixing in a computer program.
Digital Performer = the host software that records and manipulates the sound data (audio tracks). I can chop, rearrange, minipulate and process all my different audio tracks (guitar, drums, bass, etc) and mix them together to create a final mix and a song track. you can use Plugins (i.e. EQ plugins) within this host software to further process the tracks.
