Name Game
Memphis band Crippled Nation have changed their name. I know the guys in the band, especially James, who I used to work with. They've been playing in town for years and I guess they felt they were not really getting anywhere, stuck in a rut. So they decided to change their name. "Crippled Nation" never seemed like a great band name to me in the first place, but this new name...
Cripple Nation is now...drumroll...The United. Well, that's fairly generic sounding. And it's also too close to The Used, a band I hate. I guess it's hard coming up with a decent sounding band name. It takes a lot of thought and time and effort...well, not really.
Here's a list of 10 potential band names I came up with in 30 seconds just by looking at objects in the room I'm in right now...all of which I think would be more interesting than The United:
1. Hung Pictures
2. Light Switch
3. Turkish Silver
4. Half Past Nine
5. Lazy Dinosaur
6. Rotating Blades
7. The Remotes
8. The Supplies
9. Book Case (could claim to be relatives of Neko Case)
and finally...
10. Tivo
Speaking of which, the band Devo have released a cd hot on the heels of the Kids Bop craze...it's called Devo 2.0 and features kids singing classic Devo songs. Brilliant! My favorite thing about it is that was no real need for it in the first place...on any level, except for maybe the humor of the whole idea. I'm thinking about buying it...
