it is just shy of 3:30 am, this the morning of wednesday, november 3, 2004. the day after.
i have no desire to wax eloquent about my dismay over the respective outcomes of elections at the local, state, and federal levels*. instead, this entry will be (fairly) short and bittersweet.
*there's no need, as Siv articulated my thoughts exactly.
i suppose i will take a more "objective" approach to the events of the past day and merely post election results. eh, i won't do even that.

in short, it's been nothing but across-the-board gains for the president and his party. i've really got to hand it to karl rove. bravo, mr. rove. bravo. you've (single-handedly, i should say) successfully engineered a second term for george walker bush. i think your portrait, taken as part of the late richard avedon's unfinished portfolio, in this week's new yorker says it all: political savvy and sheer genius.
my mood: forlorn
oh how i pine for the sheltered innocence of my childhood...

i'm going to keep this photo up for awhile, as a reminder to keep looking for that silver lining.
it's not the end of the world just yet.

the fact that i don't live in the states doesn't really make me feel better about what happened. i wish canadians could somehow vote in your election. john kerry would currently be your motherfucking president.
i can't believe the stupid fucking kids in your country still couldn't get off their asses to vote. in one of the single most important us elections ever. if i could punch them all i would.
