The best thing about having a kid is - turning him on to the stuff you like yourself.
(no - i dont mean SG - he's only 10!) I'm mostly talking about my other 3 loves: Literature, Music, and Film.
He digs music - even the top 30 crap he's been getting exposure to - out of the house, He's turning out to be quite the little reader .. harry potter, percy jackson, etc..
And he loves movies.
We started watching the Bond films a few weeks ago .. starting in order from the beginning - with Dr No.
I've always been a fan of the series since i accidentally saw The Man With the Golden Gun in the theatre when i was 13. (i was 6'2" then - somewhat common now but unusual for the 70's - and got in with no problem)
We thought we were seeing something else - had no idea what to make of it at first but i have to say by the time the barely obscured naked women were dancing to the theme tune I was hooked. Even if it was Roger Moore.
My kid has been digging them too - and i'm happy to report that he's not buying into the rediculously sexist tone of these films (no one with half a brain ever did) Every time Bond kisses yet another woman who is unable to resist his charms, he rolls his eyes
But there's still plenty to love .. The wonderful John Barry (RIP) scores, the gorgeous Bond women, the cars, the hand to hand combat, and the goofy asides that would provide so much fodder for the satires that would inevitably follow (non better than the Austin Powers series) Plus- my kid digs the gadgets - of course.
Last night we hit our first Roger Moore film, Live and Let Die .. my kid is still a hard core Connery fan - your first love is always the one that sets the bar - but i figure he'll give eventually - especially when we meet Jaws .. any day now
Oh .. and here is a new pic of me and my kid.. it was a rough weekend.
