The 'Oh Well" blog
So last Thursday I get an email near the end of the day that took me by suprise - to say the least.
The editor of Fangoria magazine asked me if i could go to Budapest Hungary next week
(which would have been today) to interview Anthony Hopkins on the set of The Rite - his new flick.
I emailed him back to verify it wasnt a joke. It Wasn't - Warner Brothers approached him asking if he could send someone on short notice - I was able to do it.
So I run around getting the approval i needed - boss - other boss (wife) and everyone said go for it.
Now i have to prepare - so i did that all weekend until i wasn't nervous anymore and knew what i was going to ask, and how.
I just needed to know when, the itenerary, etc.
I see emails going back and forth ... it's not looking good all of a sudden, Hopkins isnt available - hang tight and we'll see what we can do.
Yesterday - a resounding 'no' It wasn't going to happen. "Production schedule changes" or something.
Although i prefer to do photography and shoot these folks, my friend is pushing me into writing .. has been asking me to do so for some time. He finally tricked me into it a few months ago by sending me to the set of Saw VII. (we were the only press invited on the last day of shooting)
So the article for that - my first - is coming out in the next issue. Its not great - he wanted a piece about the 3D process - and i was given extremely technical information by the folks i interviewed. I wasn't happy with what i wrote - but i guess I had to start somewhere. I would have been far more comfortable interviewing Sir Anthony Hopkins .. but it looks like that was definately too good to be true - as close at it was to coming to pass.
I'm sure i'll get more opportunities - and i know with this business things can change in an instant - so i was always prepared for the fact that it might not happen..
so now here i am ...at work, instead of half way around the world, in James Bond territorry.
in the words of Dante the Clerk "i'm not supposed to be here today !!!"

Thank you! I did so well that the photographer wants to go into a business venture with me and promises to drop my name to his fellow shutterbugs. I am SO proud!! Hopefully I'll be able to share some of those soon.

Chalk up another thing we have in common. Jesus, this is getting somewhat eerie.
