I can't believe I still have 14 months of this left.
I want to go to Afghanistan.
To make the time go by faster.
One thing that I've come to realize over the last few days is that Marines are not supposed to be sitting around on their asses in garrison. We are supposed to be over where stuff is happening.
In a combat zone you have a mission and that mission is usually important, even if it might not seem like it in the day to day tedium.
In garrison your mission is to stand in formations and get haircuts and roll sleeves and listen to lectures about how suicide and bankruptcy are bad.
Having a sense of purpose matters more than having the comforts of home. Comfort just makes you want more comfort and the next thing you know you are complacent and lazy and bitter.
That's what I'm thinking.
