Here are some random postings from the past week in no particular order:
- Worked this week for two stations along the Ohio River in southern Ohio. I was doing an installation of new automation systems. I got into town on Tuesday night and we finished work on Friday night; pretty quick for an installation of this size and magnitude.
- Work related injuries: one gash in my right thumb from scraping it across a piece of unfinished wood, one scabbed over mark on my right pinky where I set it down on my soldering iron, and one inch long scab on my right elbow where I set it down on my soldering iron.
- Notes about soldering irons: the tip of the soldering iron is around 500-600 degrees F. When it burned me the two times, it remove a few layers of skin. That is called a second-degree burn.
- Virginia Tech won it's football game against Virginia and Miami lost to Georgia Tech. Hence, if Virginia Tech wins again North Carolina next week, they will get to play for the ACC championship. Right now they are predicted to play in the Orange Bowl (Miami) on January 3rd. Go Hokies!
- I went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire on Thursday night / Friday morning. I was invited by a co-worker at the station I was at this week. They were friends with the owner and not only did I get in for free, I also got free popcorn and soda. The movie was good and I ended up getting 4hrs sleep before I had to be back at work at 8am.
- At said movie, the owner's son and daughter showed us around the theatres they were updating for stadium seating and Dolby Digital sound. His daughter was in college but was helping out with some last minute details around the theatre that night. It's been awhile since I've met a woman like her. She had the 'girl next door' good looks but had much more than her looks. She was friendly and I could tell she was a caring person. This is the downside to travelling. I meet somone I am interested in and she's 150mi away in a place I only visit every 2-3mo.
- Thanksgiving is on Thursday and I still don't know where I'm going to be. I will either be here in Blacksburg or in Virginia Beach. Gaintner and I have halfway planned to spend Thanksgiving together as it's too far to travel to see family. I'm going to try to take some time off at Christmas to spend a few more days in Indiana with my family.
- Erin my rat turns two years old in a month and is still going strong. If I slept 80% of the day, I would probably live to be very old as well. Katie turns two years old in February.
I think that's about all the random thoughts for today. Ciao. -Dave
