My Christmas. Came in from work, slept all day, woke up, showered, got dressed. House empty - the others have gone out - then I went to work. And that was my Christmas. No TV. No huge dinner. No carols. No presents opened. Utter bliss. One of the best ever, I think. Not quite as good as 2008 (got up, watched Doctor Who, went back to bed), but pretty damn close. As you can probably tell, I'm not keen on Christmas. I have, in fact, hated it since I was nine - which was in 1972, so I have had plenty of practice, and seen the onset of the 'festive' season roll back from December to the end of September. When I were a lad, and it were all fields round here, etc., the Christmas advertisements on TV started around the last week of November. And it would feel, for want of a better term, 'Christmassy'. Now it doesn't. Oh, and why are perfume ads so, well, enigmatic? Usualliy a pretentious voiceover, and you're thinking: "Who's that?" "She's skinny." "Ooh, shiny face." "Is that a plinth?", and finally the thought: "What a load of old wank. I have no idea what they're trying to sell me." Why can't they just show the bottle, and say something like: "New 'Slosh', from Drain-o. It smells of Neroli, Mint, and a hint of Napalm". But no, it's art-wank all the way. Sorry. This is the ramblings of a middle aged man. I wish all of you out there a Happy New Year. No, really, I do. 👍😃✅
