[Edited Feb. 26, 12:32 am: So, did I call it, or did I call it?!]
So... anyone watching the Oscars? The show really irritates me, but I get excited to watch it every year. It's such a poorly planned way to honor movies, and yet I can't look away.
"Let's spend five minutes each on every nominated Best Song with a huge production number! But God forbid we even show a CLIP from any nominated short film, foreign film, short animated film, or documentary. 'Cause what people tune into a film awards show for is... singing and dancing.
And in case people might get too distracted by all the attention to actual nominated movies, let's make sure we throw in not one, not two, but THREE "tributes" to some random damn thing -- look! Editing! Look! History in the movies! There! Hollywood sure made a lot of comedies -- not that you'll hear anything funny, cause they're all chopped into half second bits and played in random order! Yes, that really puts it all in perspective."
My predictions this year: Ellen DeGeneres will be very good, and will get to do it again (poor Jon Stewart and David Letterman!), and it will be "The Departed" all the way in Best Picture and Director. And those awards will be given out at the 4 hour mark, long after anyone stopped caring.
