Welp, I'm back in Oregon after almost two years away living in Maine. What brought me back to the West Coast? I finally landed a job with Laika, the animation studio responsible for Coraline ParaNorman and Boxtrolls.
Ever since Caroline's release in 2009, I became enamored with the way that Laika uses advanced manufacturing technology and innovative techniques for creating stop motion animation, and decided that I will one day work there. Well, given my experience gained in the fields of 3D design and 3D printing, I was able to secure a position processing the 3D printed components that Laika uses for their puppets and the props they interact with.
It's a fulfilling job and easily one of the best places that I've ever worked. The creative energy and the inclusiveness the my coworkers exude make it easy to come in every day and leave feeling like I've done something productive.
And to be honest it's really nice being back in Oregon in general. I really liked Maine, and there's a lot of things to recommend it. But when you get right down to it there is no replacement for you 200 foot tall Doug Fir trees that carpet the mossy Pacific Northwest, nor the bike friendly attitude of City Planning. I'm currently looking for a nice place in Hillsboro, if you happen to know anybody, feel free to let me know.
I'm going to try to be a little bit more active on this site, I really like the community and the inclusive mindset of most members. If you happen to be in the area, let me know and maybe we can grab a fantastic microbrew or something!
