So I am writting this four paragraphs blog and then I realised, who's gonna read all this ? Interested people I guess, but it is still ridiculous long. For those who don't like beer or don't like to know about smaller breweries, here's the punchline: I wanna go to seattle a some point in the future, just for their beer. More specifically: Elysian Brewery. Their 12 beers of the apocalypse ( Yes, it is a reference to the 2012 promise of doom) are simply intriguing to me. That is my travel punchline.
Montral. The city I pretty much come from. I Kinda hate that place you can't drive your car properly, some parts are old and dirty and its basically all falling apart.
The one thing I love about that place is that, its such a big city, that something is always going on there. For example, Fantasia Festival is coming back this summer and suffice to say I can't wait to see this year's crop of independant (and also sometimes a bit dependant) internationnal movies.
Now, however, I am treated to "Le mondial de la bire a Montral" which is pretty much breweries from around the world ( and alot from Qubec of course) showing off their brewing skills. For someone who enjoys discovering new beer tastes in beer, like my friends and I, it's very welcome here, as qubecers ( if that's even a word) drink a lot ! You pretty much can find all the big brewries here too, tough I don't get why they are invited since you can already pick them up anywhere else. But hey, everyone's gonna party the way they want, as long as I get my 3 to beer discovery, I'm a happy camper, albeit a drinking happy camper but who isn't really ?
There is actually a lot to enjoy about this celebration of brewing. There is special food stands where you can taste different meat and all (one sells kangoroo meat for exemples). There is just kind of a happy vide all around you as everyone is at least a little inhibriated. It's up to you to decide which level of alcoholism you want to reach.
Anyhow, this all brings me to Elysian brewery, based in Seattle. I had first heard about them, I can't recall where, from the news of their "12 beers of the apocalypse". Seattle being a bit far from Qubec (about 50 hours, accroding to iphone maps) I was looking everywhere here for vendors who could carry the beer this brewery. I haven't found one yet, please if you are reading this and know a guy, let me know. But then came along this festival of beers and elysian brewery has 3 beers being sold there which is a start, but none of them a part of the awesome sounding collection. I had the " Bte Blanche Tripel" and I really enjoyed it.
Now all I need is to save up some money and get myself a roadtrip to seattle. I know this brewery has potential and wanna tap into it and taste more ! And I will, eventually.
In the meantime, if you are near Montral from June 6th to june 11th (I think), you should definatly check that festival out, it's worth the trip.
Deeply sorry about the lenght, I got carried away, I really enjoy good beer.
