I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for supporting my photography, if I weren't doing this I have NO idea what i'd be doing with my life, and the thought of that is just kinda scary, so thank you all for appreciating my work and helping me get to where I am today. So yeah thanks for all the support. The fact that i'm staff is slowly sinking in, and i've been somewhat consistent with shooting for the site and am booking a decent amount of future shoots. FYI: Los Angeles December 12th...
anyway time for a rant of sorts:
I feel really disconnected lately... just from everything , i'm sure it has to do with my day job, which for 8 hours a day i'm retouching the pimples off senior portraits. When I first signed on I didn't think it would be that much of a challenge and really easy work, i just didn't expect it to be so creatively draining. 4 more weeks til it's over thank god.
That being said, i've shot at least every single weekend in the last few weeks except this one, and i would say the sets are pretty decent, and i know they are but I just kinda feel like i have no real connection with them. Yeah I took the picture, and yes, its a gorgeous shot, but it feels a bit more like i'm going through the motions and just making a factory style picture. I think since I am doing factory style work, and churning out portraits with my retouching work but having no emotional connection to them, its followed me over to my editing at home, which is NOT good.
along with that I've been thinking about photography a lot and how much my work has changed in shooting for this site. I think the challenge has been great for me to adapt to a different style of shooting than what I was used to doing, and then I thought about some of the other photographers on the site and was curious about their evolution. Now, if you look at first couple of years the shots back then are completely different than the shots right now. I'll admit when I first started photography I had known about SG for awhile and even had a trail membership when it first launched, but to me the photography was nothing impressive, i wasn't a fan of "pin up" photography and thats how they were mostly conveyed. Fast forward a bunch of years and you'll notice how much the photography has changed. It's weird how in some ways, SG is its own genre of photography. No other publication in the world demands 40-60 near-perfect pictures per job so in some ways it's harder than most shoots. So i'm checking out old sets by the ones who have been doing it the longest and wondering the influences of the site vs influences of the photographers. I think it's safe to say that all the sets of the day for the last 2 years since i've joined all have a certain feel to them and i'm wondering how did the photographers on the site come to that overall conciousness of shooting things a certain way??
to break it down a lot easier, did the site influence the style of the photography, or did the photographers influence they style of the site??
so to answer the question about the girl i posted in my last blog, i think we're pretty close to submitting the test set we shot. it was her first nudes and shes still getting into the vibe of doing such shots. but honestly she was the most comfortable i've ever been while shooting her, and i've shot her a lot. so yeah heres another undedited teaser
I really need to move out of San Jose, like honestly the best times of my life in a long time happened this year and it was when I was out of town... theres just nothing really to keep me here anymore, unless i build up a strong SG empire around here... haha... we'll see... it just seems like everything else is going on other places, I just don't know where I want that to happen and what would be the best choice for me to live...
also i miss Silvi terribly.
anyway i hope things will fall in place pretty soon, my life seems to keep getting better, it just needs to take that extra few steps in order to be great!
ok back to fun stuff..
this cutie will be in MR on tuesday night, so keep your eyes out, i'd love for this girl to be the first hopeful I turn pink! Luana
