Imagine you are in a strange place, with strange objects and sounds all around you. You found yourself in this place after a winter of wandering around trying to find food, shelter. You started out in the North, on open lands, and the further south you wandered, it became more and more different. There are more and more of these bipedal creatures with strange multicolored pelts. They get around not by walking or running, but by getting into large noisy oddly shaped objects. You try to stay away from them, to hide from them, but sometimes you cross paths with them. They seem as fearful of you as you are of them. Now you find yourself in this place, with nowhere to hide, because these creatures have built many tall caves and made all the trails stone. Now you become cornered by one, one whose object has multi-colored lights on it. You turn to see what it is, then you hear the crack of thunder, and you are no more.
In the city of Chicago the police shot and killed a cougar that had been wandering throughout northeastern Illinois this winter. They claim that Animal Control were not responding fast enough. What actually seems to have happened was the officer who shot the cougar was afraid of what he didn't know, and acted hastily in response to a perceived threat. Everywhere else, the cougar would run away when confronted by people, but here he decided to make a stand? I doubt it. My heart is heavy because this beautiful animal is now gone.
