Hello beautiful people! I've been slacking off on my SGing lately, and I'm missing it greatly! I've been working 50+ hour weeks that also include multiple hours of rush hour driving per day...I love my work, but it does get tiring.
Anyway:
Here's what I've been working on, lol. We've been digging a site that's set to be destroyed by development, so we have to be thorough. We were spoiled with unseasonable warmth for the first few weeks, but last week we had to deal with a great deal of rain and snow.
I'm also trying to get ready to move to Texas in August to start my PhD in archaeology at A&M. As part of that I'm getting ready to head to Alaska (where I'll do my fieldwork in a few years) in July to get some experience! I'm really excited, though I need to get ready for bear-guard duties and lack of showers... I won't be able to make it to Anchorage this go 'round, but hopefully soon!
Now, an old blog homework, but one that I liked the look of.
1. The most important advise I could give myself five years ago: don't assume you're recent success will translate into everything you want, keep up the hard work! I graduated college five years ago, and the process of getting into grad school and establishing my career proved more difficult than I expected despite my academic success.
Here's me and my undergraduate honors cohort (I'm the one with the thinning mohawk)
2. Don't spend money like you actually have it-archaeologists don't make shit.
3. Take work where you can get it! I tried to stay loyal to one company for a while before I realized that my skills mean I'm in demand in my industry. I can bounce between multiple employers without pissing anyone off because I do good, quality work!
4. Don't let people bring you down, even if you love them. Many of my friends and family lead very different lives than I do, and it's not always been easy to relate to them and start true to myself.
And finally:
5. Take time to breath! There comes a point when the law of diminishing returns kicks in and the only productive thing to do is relax! I've gotten better at that, now when I reach that point I get stoned and get on SG!
Thanks to @missy and @rambo, and ask the rest of you lovely people!
