Hello beautiful people! Today we here on the Colorado Front Range had a rally to Protect Our Muslim Neighbors, and it was quite a positive event so I thought I'd share.
The event was scheduled about a week ago, before the ban was (at least for the moment) struck down. As a result the vibe was somewhat more optimistic than it might otherwise have been.
I haven't yet seen official numbers, but I'd say there were at least 10,000 people in attendance. We had numerous speakers and presenters including local musicians, poets, high school students, holocaust survivors, victims of the Japanese internment camps, Denver's mayor, one of our state reps, and lots of folks from our local Muslim and interfaith communities.
One of the most moving moments for me was seeing 10,000+ people go silent as a show of respect while the Muslims in attendance observed afternoon prayers.
There was also a great deal of love and respect exchanged between the Muslim community and the community of undocumented Latinos/Latinas. It was very heartwarming!
P.S.-it's been super windy here lately, so I constructed a fairly beefy (and reusable) sign!
