Hello friends...
I'd like to say a few words about the Liberal Leader posturing going on right now.
Right now the National Liberals are getting together to have a powwow. Mend fences and come together before the leadership vote. There is already some whispering of me not him (or her) and it is all starting off on the wrong foot.
I am a liberal but not a Liberal if you take my meaning. My newsie buddies call me Liberal Lad but I just don't know if this meeting is going to accomplish anything.
What I would like the Liberals to do is take a series of votes and have meaningful debates. Politics is a power struggle now with participants saying anything so they can obtain the power they need do what they want...
I would like to see the Liberals figure out what they believe in. If they believe in social programs... which ones.. and why? What is important to them? They need to look at this list of things they believe in and agree as a group that this is what they want to see Canada believe as well. Right now, all they are is a party thats wants to beat the Tories. An admiral goal to be sure, but that's just a goal.. not a belief.
Harper did an excellent job of this. His entire party pulled together and even though Canadians don't believe in his ideas... a fool with vision is preferable to a scholar who is lost.
A TRUE leftist would not have bowed to corporate pressure nor engaged itself in scandal. If the new Liberal leader can embody this, then the party will have an excellent beacon to guide them through the foggy waters of Canadian politics. Perhaps there is still a chance for Canada to shine in this dark world again.
Be well friends...
