Let's pretend you are given the possibility to put your brain - or, better, your thoughts - into a machine.
Let's pretend this machine is human-like, indeed it looks human at all. But it's not, it's the ultimate result of science progress: it's a perfect body.
Let's pretend you can also choose its appearance, so you'd choose somebody like the better version of yourself.
Let's pretend that if this functional structure goes somehow broken, you can move your thoughts (think about it as software) to another one.
Let's pretend, this is the most difficult part to believe, that you are sure no one is gonna interfere with your thoughts during the process of moving em from your human body to the synthetic one. Yeah, loyal engineers, honest doctors. Well, it's difficult but it can be.
Let's pretend, at last, that you are given the possibility to choose. Keeping your old body or get into a new, stainless one?
What would you do?
You are your "soul" or you are your "body"?
Software or hardware?
Your aspect is linked to your mind?
Do you think nature is our only future?
Fear or attraction?
Do you really believe that would mean the end of mankind?
Maybe it's just the final step.
Of a process, started with monkeys, ending with angels.
[in this topic you can be religious and you can be atheist: I could tell to the religious one that God wanted this, getting "angels" is reaching his image as He wanted, separating us from animals / to the atheist I could tell that this is the only goal and meaning in human life: getting beyond our present, to a super-human being, the full creation of a perfect creature]
Those are my ideas. Right now, you only have to tell me if you would refuse or not that perfect "hardware" as your new body.

reptilia:
I believe that a person is his own mind, not his own body. You can't prove a soul exists, so that's out of the question. There are flaws with all conceptions of this, however, but I would still choose to keep my original body. I'm not perfect, and I don't want to be.

If you belive in god, then you belive there was an entity that created creatures such as us. If one knowledgable entity could creat people another knowlegeable entity could also create a similar creature. If said knowlegable entity knew more about creating creatures then the creature could be that much better. ![biggrin](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/biggrin.b730b6165809.gif)
