Let me tell you guys about my first role model - because, in the end, this strong, amazing woman is completely to blame for my love of tattoos, and why I found and fell in love with Suicide Girls to begin with.
So who here is a fan of P!nk?
No, I'm not joking; P!nk the pop star was my first role model.
I guess you all might be rolling your eyes, or even wondering what she could possibly have to do with my path into modeling. So let's talk about it.
In case you don't know who she is, let me describe her for you: badass, 100% unapologetically herself, tattooed... does that sound familiar?
Sounds like this site, doesn't it?
P!nk always made me feel like it was okay to be myself, even when I was the outcast. She always had the perfect song to help me through a situation - be it school, boys, family. I felt connected to a woman I had never met, because she was simply herself. Without even being aware, she nursed my pain - whatever that pain might have been from - and helped me heal and become stronger.
This retro, tattooed beauty helped me love myself. Helped me to feel empowered as I was. She made me feel less afraid to be strong.
Falling totally in love with P!nk and her style, as I got older I began looking for other women who fit this "modern pinup" kind of look, which is what led me into finding the Suicide Girls. Back then I never could have imagined bcoming a model, or that this would be that path I take.
Today P!nk continues to inspire me. Her music videos bring me incredible shoot ideas, her lyrics still resonate with me. I watch her continously succeed and it drives me forward.
I will never be ashamed for who I am, I will never feel guilty for the things I enjoy, and I have P!nk to thank for that.
So who was your first role model SG fam (@missy @rambo)? Who keeps you going?
