"Don't turn your back on me, don't ever let me down..."
- Flogging Molly, "Within a Mile of Home"
Haven't heard from the lady in a few days. Called her this weekend to get together, she never called back. Figure I'll wait til next week, then write her off. Part of me is wondering if she's not doing the same disappearing act that the last one did (e.g. not answering any form of communication whatsoever, nor bothering to attempt to communicate with me). The thought is foolish, immature, and probably stemming from my own insecurity, but it won't go away...and I'm starting to react as if that's what has happened.
On one hand, I'll feel incredibly dumb if something happened to her. On the other, if it is the same...pattern, then I don't want to be hanging for any longer than necessary. Alas, the default rule persists: "It's better to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised than to expect the best and be disappointed."
...and now I realize how very...weak that statement sounds.
