I've been fortunate in the past in that I've never really had an issue with anyone via eBay.
I've bought and sold plenty of times and up until now I can say I've happily dealt with international buyers and sellers with little to no event. In fact, the only discrepancy I've had that comes to memory is when a seller sent me the "variant" version of some collectable (and I wanted the "other" version) and I had to send it back at my expense.
So there's this company that deals in leather jackets that I've used twice in the past. They have awesome jackets, and I find myself occasionally looking at their store page to see what they've got in stock. Recently I found a pretty decent-looking leather messenger bag nearing the end of the auction time with not many bids and a really low price, and I've been looking for a such a bag, so I decided to try my luck at at. I won with no competition, zomg.
Here's where the issues arrise. I pay for it right away, and a day or so later I recieve that message telling me they've shipped it out to me. I don't think much about it and quickly shuffle it into my email "eBay" folder I have to keep it sorted.
Then one eventful night a few days later I'm looking through it and I notice their shipping notice - it has the wrong address. In fact, it has my old address, from over two years ago. The hell? I check my PayPal reciept and it's got the correct shipping address on it, what the hell? Was it just a clerical error? I did recieve my first purchase from this comapy at that house, even though I've recieved a second one since then at my current address since. This requires an email!
I ask, simply:
"Hi! I was erviewing my emails and wanted to confirm something. My PayPal reciept says my shipping address is bloobity bloo while a shipping notice from you says my item was shipped to doobity doo. ... I, uh ... I wanted to make sure you sent it to my shipping address, basically."
And get a professional response, stating that, yes, they did send it to bloobity bloo and asked if I filled out their check-out system correctly.
Well I rarely use a store's personal checkout system and usually go straight through PayPal since it's right there and too often the alternate checkout is sent several hours later.
Anyway, after some more emails from me, explaining that they have the wrong address, and some from them trying to convince me that they have the right address ... I get something incredible. A second message from them - no, a second shipping notification from them - stating they've sent the bag to my correct address.
"Awesome!" I think. "Awesome! It's going to work out."
Ha!
I'm sitting at home at the end of last week, thinking, "Hmm, I probably should have recieved my package by now, right? It's been like ... two, three weeks? Maybe I should email them again to get an estimated arrival time.
Thier response: "Dear darcloak, it appears that the bag is been returned to us."
*snap*
"Well ... of course it would be returned to you; you sent it to the wrong address. We corresponded about this almost a month ago; somehow you sent it to a different address than what was listed on my PayPal reciept (my old address from over two years ago) and after some badgering on my part, I recieved a shipping notification that it was being sent to my current and correct address.
Please, please send it again to the following - correct - address, in a timely manner, so I might finally get my bag on. I really don't want this to drag on any longer. Thank you."
...
You know, I used to love eBay. It was a fantastical realm one could find almost anything in. From ancient bottle caps to that set of Ghostbusters II collector glasses my family got at Sunoco one summer and have since broken every last one and I've been trying to replace it for years ... from books to hard-to-locate dvds that are much cheaper than at the mall.
I feel so broken ...
