Spent the day in Toronto today, exploring the area. It's always been a pain in my ass that I've officially worked in the city for over a year and still don't really know where anything is beyond a handful of fast food places for lunch/dinner and some movie theatres. I figure, you know, if my job security is solid I'll likely wind up moving out there in a matter of years, so it'll be beneficial to scope out hotspots and shops, locations that I wouldn't mind being near or living directly within. Pubs too; gotta find pubs.
I attribute my lack of knowledge to the "hour lunch" principal: I only really have 30 minutes to look around because I should spend the last 30 minutes getting back, and I need to secure some nourishment in that timeframe as well. So I feel rushed trying to eyeball places of interest while constantly checking my watch for the time to see when it'd be a good idea to turn around. Not to mention my first year of full-time employment was predominantly noctournal in nature so it's hard to really look around a city.
Speaking of work, I stopped in to lend a DVD set to a co-worker. Can you believe there's people out there who've never seen Heroes? I mean, like ... geeks. Geeks and comic book and superhero fans who've never tried to watch or see what all this Heroes talk is all about. Man, people today ...
So I lent him the box set like an Awesome Person would do. Less than an hour later I get a call from my manager, wondering if I'd be able to take on some overtime tonight since two people suddenly called in sick and he heard I was in the area. I thought it was kinda funny at the time, not sure why.
Day was a success. Go me!
