I am riding a great wave of stress this week. Started with a visit to my endocrinologist. I've been avoiding him. Type i diabetes for 38 years. Turns out this time i've gotten the best results i ever have on my blood sugars.
But another problem emerges. I'm on an anti-depressant, pristiq. I have a relatively new shrink. I had an appt scheduled with her last friday, but the office called me and told me weeks ago i had to reschedule since the md is going on vacation. Mental note to call and reschedule. Meanwhile, i've run out of meds and the doc for some reason rejects my refill request. I have taken most anti-depressants at some point in my life. Pristiq is the only one i've ever used that if you miss a dose, you start feeling really awful. Brain zaps, my brain just fails on normal thought or concentration. You have to wean off it if you go off. I've left a voicemail with the shrink. But i had no pill for yesterday am. I called the pharmacy, my primary doc. Nobody could get me a pill to avoid this awful feeling. Waiting to hear back from the shrink (no one answers phone at the "office", i end up having to go to urgent care just to get my scrip renewed. Missed going in to work to handle this shit.
I take about 8 meds a day between diabetes and depression. My depression meds work quite well, same dose for 3+ years. But shit if it isn't hard to keep on top of all the doc visits meds and lab work my life requires. On top of that i have a surprise presentation i have to build by tomorrow am. I will pull it off, but this shrink, whom i've seen twice, stopping my meds because she went on vacation? That is just bullshit. I'd fire her if i didn't know most of the providers in my area. She's not bad but this was an agregious mistake.
I started the hunt at 8a. By 3p i'd been to urgent care and had their scrip filled for a $75 copay. By 6p i had voicemails from both the shrink finally, and from my primary notifying me they had submitted scrips. Too late, 3x duplication.
Crazy days in healthcare in the us. Makes me want to move to sweden.
