And now for something a little less escoteric (does using the word escoteric mark me as a geek? I suppose so; but who cares!)
This past week has been a good one for me, music wise. After weeks of not being able to find anything new that suited me mood, I've stumbled across two in a matter of days which have caused me to go crazy with music-lust!

All I can say is: Oh.My.GOD! I'd wanted this box set for a while, I'd first heard of it about a year ago but had never wanted to splurg and get it. The other day I got one of my last three checks from my teaching job and figured "Why not?'
You see, I first discovered Rockabilly last year, through Johnny Cash. I'd been listening to some Cash and became interested in his early stuff because of the movie "Walk the Line". Having the money, I picked up a Box Set of his work with Sun, and then got another box set of Jerry Lee Lewis as well. I liked it, but I can't say that I fell head-over-heels in love with the music.
Thats changed now. This box set is amazing; four disks of Rockabilly and there isn't more than a small handful of songs I didn't like. The rebellion and lust just oozes from the music; its as addicting of heroin and about as dangerous too. I've spent the last few days driving around, way too fast of course, and blaring this music as high as my car stereo will go.
There is just something about this stuff that makes you feel like your 20 feet tall and on top of the world; the roads are open, women want you, and there is always the promise of a fight in the air. An Irishman's dream, let me tell you!
I seriously can't put it down.
Icky Thump!!!

All right, it may not be cool to be enamored with the White Stripes anymore. If I was a true Hipster concerned about my image, I'd have dropped them the second they became popular. Luckily for me, I've ain't never been hip a day in my life, and I certainly don't plan on starting now.
I first heard this album was coming a few montsh ago, and I've been eagerly awaiting it ever since. My plan was to get up and high tail it over to Best Buy this morning and pick it up first thing; it ended up taking a bit longer because we had to pick my Father up at the airport. Not that any of this matters.
All that matters is that this is a wonderful album. I still prefer Elephant, but this is tied with "White Blood Cells" as my second favorite White Stripes album right now. The title song is great, but the songs on the album I'm really digging right now are "Conquest" (and old Patti Page song! And yes, I know who Patti Page is. And yes, I like her music

By the way, I've been giving more and more thought to trying to form a band when I start Grad School in Fargo. I have an interesting idea of merging traditional country instrumentation with the passion of Punk and the Pathos of Grunge. Now sure exactly how it would turn out yet (I'd still need to find band members before that really becomes a huge problem), but I'm shooting for a sound somewhat similiar to Hank Williams III when he sings "The Devil's My Friend".

The only thing that was released was Girl Of The North Country on Dylan's Nashville Skyline album. But you'd love the studio boot.
I also muyst recommend, to satisfy your Punkabilly Tooth (hmm . . possible song title for me there):
The Meat Puppets.
