I am trying to maintain some semblance of optimism. My Mom's visit has been a blast so far. We have travelled between the Netherlands and Belgium with a St. Patty's Day pitstop at a friend's house for food, drink and revelry. The awesomeness ended yesterday, however, with my nefarious Honda Civic's penchant for disappointment. As my Mom and I got into my car to leave for another adventure, the transmission decided to give out. Fortunately, we were still in my driveway and not stranded somewhere else. After making arrangements with ADAC (Germany's version of AAA) and with the local Honda dealership to handle the pick-up and repair of my car, Momma-dukes and I made the best of the sunny and warm-ish day by drinking beer and BBQ. There is a train station a 15-min walk from my house, so we're not completely stranded, but the fact remains that I feel like I let my Mom down. She says that it doesn't matter, that we get to spend time together and that is all that counts, but still...Le sigh, I'm trying to make the rest of Momma's first visit to Germany a good one. Let's just hope the repairs to my car won't cost me my soul.

Hang in there, Dani! smile Having hosted 2 trips to the West Coast for my Mom, and prodding her to get a passport & come out here, I can tell you that the unexpected can & DOES happen. Don't look at it as being "stranded" in the local area; instead, take the time to just chill-ax with your mom. How well do you know your local town/village? Maybe it's time to get out there and find out what happens when nobody else is looking. ^_^

I hope your birthday was fun, as it sounds like your vacation so far has been amazing.

Good luck with car repairs. A co-worker of mine has to junk a car he bought about 3 weeks ago because it just DIED on him. At least you're in Germany. If anyone knows how to fix a machine, it's them. Even if it's a Honda! wink
