Earlier this week my friend Drew extended an invitation my way - to go snowboarding.
Now, I'd like to point out that I'm definitely not known for my balance. I've fallen down my back stairs TWICE since September, and suffered a concussion one of those times. I have trouble walking sometimes, so I'm not sure why he thought snowboarding + Danielle might equal a good idea.
But I thought I might as well go since he had free tickets, and I've never been skiing or snowboarding. Why not try it out, right?
Today was the day, and I've just made it home. We were out for a full twelve hours (including drive there/back, breaks between runs, stops for food).I'm not sure how I feel about the experience as a whole... I had fun, oh sure! I caught on pretty quick, but still can't do anything involving the toe-side. Edge? Whatever, I guess.
I had one big mishap during my first run, and I've tons of little bruises everywhere to show for it. I ended up moving a bit too fast, and caught the front under some powder... and BAM. Head first down the hill, and hard. Hard enough to break my nose, but I (somehow) managed to avoid hitting my face at all.
Actually, my uterus took the brunt of the faceplant (uterusplant?), and I've spent most of the hours since in ridiculous pain. Lucky I'm still at my parents' house for the holidays. Mum loves me, and brought me a hot-water bottle and a whoopie pie as soon as I came in the door and crawled into bed.
I did get a second run in before I started aching too badly, and it was much better. I managed to control the few falls I had, and was comfortable moving a bit faster as well.
Apparently these free tickets are something Ashley gets easily, so there might be another trip in my future...
