Well, I haven't had much going on to make a good update and now I do.
First, I'll talk about mundane stuff. I have a shoot Saturday that should be fun and I'm negotiating a shoot for Sunday but the model is being...uncooperative. I'm having to go rounds about why modeling, direction and styling credits aren't appropriate for gallery shows. The person seems to think that because I'm going to be taking a picture of them they need all of those credits added to the little sign that has artist, type of print and price that's underneath the piece on the gallery wall.
I might budge on the 'model' part, but stylist and direction? Fuck that. I style and direct what I shoot and people do what the fuck I say or I'm done with them.
Sorry. Do I sound frustrated? I'm about to call the shoot just so I don't have to put up with the bullshit. It's not like I haven't offered to amply compensate this person.
Anyway. I was contacted by a band to be their hired gun guitarist. They want me to come see them tomorrow night as a three piece at some show. I guess they former lead guitarist bailed on them/got fired/quit/whatever. I listened to some of his work and was thoroughly unimpressed. But now that I think about it maybe he left because they wouldn't let him stretch out. We'll see I guess. They have 3 CDs out and are working on a 4th. Their manager (who was who contacted me) said they were planning a tour when the 4th CD was released. Again, we'll see. I rehearse with them on Wednesday.
Before anyone gets all impressed with any of that...I had never heard of them before today and neither have you. They aren't with a big recording company and the manager is likely a gf of one of the guys in the band and 'touring' will likely be packing my crap in the back of my car and driving to Loveland or Evergreen or the Springs. Or Aurora...
*But* I did like the songs I heard and there is an assload of potential. Their music sounds like a convincing mix of young David Bowie and the Cars. Like if David Bowie kicked Ric Ocaseks ass and took over the Cars and I'm gonna add the Tin Machine, baby!
So, yeah. We'll see.
This is my work featured in the full page add on the back of the Colorado Dark Arts Festival program.
