YAY! I fixed my ol'school Powerbook G4!
Which surprisingly enough still go for a pretty penny depending on the quality and how well they have been refurbished.
I didn't actually buy mine...no I didn't steal it. It's kind of a funny story, my last roommate was a stoner rich kid who had like 3 macbooks. He always would take off for the weekend and I would never know when he would return, the problem with this was is that he had a dog, a responsibility that I had to take care of because he was not around.
One day, I inquired about one of his laptops and asked if he would ever consider selling it. He said yeah and told me he would sell it for 600 dollars and I thought that it was a decent price because really I would be using it just for screenwriting and using the internet when at coffee places. He let me use it for a couple weeks and it said that I would give him the money at the end of the week.
The end of the week came and I was about to give him the money when he told me that he was just going to let me have it because I took care of his dog for so long. Later I found out that earlier that day he ate two weed brownies from a dispensary and smoked hash with a friend of his. I guess he was just overly generous that day. oh well.
Long story short, about a few weeks later the hard drive crashed on the laptop. I took it to a couple places and they quoted me outrageous prices to fix it. Close to 400 dollars. I then thought well let me look into this and then never did and during christmas vacation I researched a way around the 400 fix and found that as long as you have an external firewire drive and the original disk you can do it. Well being an editor and a geek I have plenty of those. I tried it first with a Frankenstein drive that I had which has pretty much that guts to an old firewire drive that my school gave me when I started there years ago. Having no need for the drive I decided to format and install the OS. It worked! It took a little while to figure out the right format but I got it.
Now comes a time when I need the laptop to be a little more presentable because I could be possibly using it for work and I wouldn't want employers looking at me strange like I was using a macbook that looked like it was rigged and used on the set of Johnny Mnemonic. So I digged around the apartment and found my good old g-raid drive (BETTY) that looks pretty sexy and is ultra portable and bus powered.
OS installed and looking sexy.
Thanks Betty

It's funny you mention that Nikki cause I still have a pc tower and now since all macs are intel powered I am trying to make this old pc into an mac. I agree though, I may have shelled out a good amount of money but since I bought it (knock on wood) I haven't had any problems with it. I can't say the same for the PCs I have had in the past.
