Today bodes as the first day of the anti-smoking ban here in Arizona. As a smoker this upsets me because now I can not smoke in places like bars or other places where smoking is commonplace. As a person this upsets me because of the inherent problems within banning a social activity, and a personal choice. I feel like we as a society are only a few short steps away from total control. Where do we draw the line between inhibiting someones personal choices and making choices for that person.
What upsets me even more is that I know countless smokers, and every single one of them has a problem with this "law" and the fact that they can't indulge in their decision to smoke. This upsets me because with all the people I know who think this "law" is bullshit, it should have never become a "law". I know that the only reason it did is because all these people failed to make their opinions known.
As long as people are willing to let their voices go unheard, they are willing to be told what they think.
