About a week ago I was finishing up at work, and realised that by the following weekend I would have only have had one day off in 17 days. So a quick internet search later and I booked a weekend in Barcelona (Spain).
I have never been to Barcelona before and didn't know much about the place. Having been, I have to say that it is somewhere I would go back to and recommend to anyone thinking of going.
Lots of tattooed people around, or maybe it was just the hot weather that meant there was more flesh on show than is usually the case.
If you are into Architecture (or art) this place is a must see, I knew a bit about the Sagrada Familia Cathedral originally designed by Gaudi and still unfinished; what an amazing building that is, I was totally unprepared for the scale of it (and this coming from someone who thought New York was a bit underwhelming).
And it is not just this building, there are gems hidden all over the place.
And this, unfortunately was the view from my hotel at night
And check out the what happens at night to these old buildings:
There were some great bars , whatever your taste in music is, and eating out was superb, for not a lot (by european standards anyway)
I am so glad I am in a place in my life where I can do this sort of thing and hope that I will be able to carry on for as long as possible.
Just one word of caution, especially if you are male (or a female accompanying one)...this is the only place I have ever experienced such aggressive and annoying street prostitutes, and this wasn't in some seedy back alley, this was on the main pedestrian street where a lot of the bars and restaurants are..I saw couples being threatened and I was followed by a group of about four women, until I ran for a taxi! not what I expected at all and very different to Amsterdam. If you are easily intimidated I would suggest avoiding La Ramblas late at night.
Travel Safe.

Hah I never pegged Barcelona as somewhere that would have a prozzie "problem". Shows how little I know lol.
Still looks like a great trip! I met some really cool Spanish girls when I was in the UK. Really nice people
Gives me lots of reasons for a visit I guess
xoxoxoxox
So easy to get around, with so many cool places to see and people to meet, definitely worth a visit - go for it
