Around 2:30 this morning I received a phone call. I was surprised, yet startled, to realize that the number on my caller ID was my high school baseball coach. What could he want? He knew I could not play baseball anymore. He knew of my knee situations....sadly, it wasn't him calling, it was his wife Pam....Coach Curt had jus passed away from renal cancer.
I first met Curt Daniels (or Coach Curt) when I was a freshman at Hudson's Bay High School here in Vancouver. Coach Curt was the coach for the varsity baseball team, and he always liked the worth ethic I put in on the field, and knew that one day I would make it big....until knee surgery, after knee surgery, after knee surgery put a damnper on all of those dreams.
I would later have Coach Curt as a teacher during my senior year. We would often reminisce about my freshman year, and how much hard work I always put in, and I would always keep up with the school's baseball team...baseball was in my blood I would tell him.
Sadly, I learned that Coach Curt had come down with renal cancer a few years ago. He was a figher. He always prolonged things. If they told him he only had 2 months, he would live for 6 months....he was just that way.
Coach Curt, this candle I light tonight, is for you. I thank God, and you, for having the honor of knowing you not only as a coach, but as a mentor as well. Rest in peace Coach....heaven needed a coach up there, and they got the best damn one I know.

That was really beautiful the way you remembered him. I am sorry that he died, but its good that you know the changes he helped make in your life and you are appriciative for that. Looks like he lived a good life! Hope you are doing well.
