Have not yet spent time in a tent on the upslopes of Haleakala but I will this weekend.

I can't explain in words how good it is to just get away from everything and everyone for a few days and revel in the complete silence.

There are times, up on the mountain, when I can wake up in the middle of the night and actually *hear* the silence.

Did that make any sense?
