I made toothpaste! It's great! I found the recipe in Adria Vasil's Ecoholic.
6 tsp - baking soda (whitener)
1/3 tsp - sea salt (gentle abrasive/mild antiseptic)
4 tsp - vegetable glycerin (to mix the paste - you can find in health food stores)
15 drops of essential oil such as peppermint, spearmint or wintergreen to freshen breath
Now the recipe in the book doesn't suggest a sweetener which does leave the paste tasting quite salty, but I am planning on buying a little stevia (natural sweetner) to add to the mixture!
I love this book and encourage anyone who's into living a green lifestyle to pick up a copy. It's surprisingly illuminating when it comes to pointing out the every day products and habits that contribute to the poisons in our environment while offering practical solutions to reverse those negative effects.
