CONTRA COSTA TIMES
Police are searching for a Concord man in connection with a series of armed robberies that occurred Saturday in parking lots up and down the Interstate 680 corridor, including the one reported in the parking lot at Diablo Valley College.
Vincent Paul Rupp, 22, is a suspect in that 2:40 p.m. robbery of a man at gunpoint on the north side of campus and several similar incidents, including one at the Nordstrom parking lot in Walnut Creek, one at a Longs Drug Stores branch in San Ramon and two at the Sunvalley mall in Concord. Dorota Laskowska, 18, of Concord already has been arrested in connection with the robberies, which took place at various times Saturday.
The most recent incident unfolded at 11:10 p.m. Saturday when Concord Police officers responded to a call of a robbery at the Sunvalley mall. The victim told police he had been walking along a sidewalk when a red car passed him and stopped. An occupant exited the car and confronted the victim with a handgun, demanding money. The victim gave some money to the suspect, who then got back into the car and drove toward the Mervyn's store.
A few minutes passed and the victim heard a woman scream. He proceeded toward the screams in the Mervyn's parking lot and came upon a woman who said she had just been robbed by the same suspect in the red vehicle.
Based on descriptions given by those two victims and others, police traced the suspect's car to an apartment on Adelaide Street in Concord. There they arrested Laskowska, who victims identified as one of the suspects. Police also recovered stolen property from the Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill and Concord robberies in the apartment.
They identified a second suspect, Rupp, who is 6 feet tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has brown eyes and a buzz cut.
Anyone with information about Rupp's whereabouts can call the Concord Police Department's dispatch section at 925-671-3333 or 925-671-3020 to speak to a detective.
