Apparently, I will not be updating this as frequently as I hoped. I guess I have enough trouble with my more conventionally hosted blog, it should have been obvious.
I'll continue to my Introduction, at a higher level.
Here is a translation of the "рассказ о себе" ("story about myself") I told at my russian oral final on Thursday:
Hello. Let's get acquainted. My name is Dan.... I am American. I was born in/am from Boston. I live in Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. My speciality is computers. I am a student of the Russian Language. I study at Carnegie Mellon University. I am single. Goodbye.
What I didn't say: I am full-time research staff at the university, taking classes on the side. I am also an entrepreneur, starting a company on the side. There is a lot of side. I have been the cohost of a weekly technology talk radio show for several years. I am the writer for an eccentric comic.
More important is that I am owned by a lovely crazy dog. His name is Corvis. He's approximately 3 years old. I have had him since September 1, 2002. He's great, but he is crazy, and it has been a lot of work to mellow him out -- hundreds (thousands) of dollars of training. He is very smart, earned his Canine Good Citizen title, and has started to compete in Agility.
