Sean and I rolled into St. Louis at about 7PM on Wednesday of last week. We had stopped in Elk Grove, OK for a 12 hour rest after driving for 36 hours. Combined the two of us had gotten the average sleep of a normal human being.
At around 9:30 I surprised my girlfriend at work... which I didn't know was closed, but I knocked anyway... I can't express how happy it made me to see her beautiful smiling face.
We went to Steak N' Shake afterward, supposed to have met Sean and his girlfriend there but they ended up quite a few miles away... apparently they didn't see the place right infront of the building we had just been in. It hurt to say goodnight.
Next day, Sean's girlfriend, Mandy, left for her sister's fourth bridal shower. We sat up and drank and watched Arrested Development.
Friday I got to see my girl again, this time at the arch.... which was actually pretty difficult to find and get to because Sean and I had really no knowledge of the layout of the city, it's highways and Sean drives like an old lady. Again- I was very happy to see my girlfriend and spend time with her. The arch is cool; metal detectors do go off when wearing combat boots (not even steel toes)... something I did not know, but do now. We had dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory which was awesome. And then we said goodbye... it hurt so much...
Saturday we drank more and watched more Arrested Development.
Sunday, out of beer. Out of our element. Mandy came back and we all had dinner, which was great. Houlihan's. Had a reuben, I like reubens- mmm, sauerkraut and corned beef and rye bread... mmm!
Monday I saw my girl again, visited her at work, my first time on the metrolink... it was weird. We saw the Dukes of Hazard and we laughed at a few parts, but mostly it was a pretty horrible movie. We met Sean and Mandy at Joe's Crab Shack (one of my favourite restaurants) and had dinner and then we said goodbye.... it broke my heart to say goodbye to such a beautiful girl. I miss her very much.
Total beers consumed: 34 between 2 people in 2 nights.
Bottles of liquor consumed: 1 bottle of Kettle One between 2 people in 2 nights.
Total time of trip: 56 hours
Total states visited: (not including California) 6, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Illinois.
State I hated the most: New Mexico. The shirt may be right: it may be cleaner than Mexico, but it's still a long stretch of nothing and it sucks driving through it, mid-summer with no AC and being used to coastal California weather.
Total number of visits with my girlfriend: Not enough. 3.
