Some strange guy with a high class English accent called the station durning my show Saturday night right after i announced the request line phone number. He was confused and thought that he was listening to a woman playing ethereal Japanese music over his car radio. I asked where he was listening from and he replied that he was in L.A., outside our broadcast range. I informed him that he must be listening to another 88.9FM in L.A. (i think its another independant station). I figured he'd be satisfied with that knowledge but he kept on talking about that music he was hearing and asking if i could play it for him. i told him the best i can do is play some Japanese jet rock and garage bands. after a few minutes of his bantering he hung up.
.....the he called back and started explaining again how he was confused and kept talking. he asked what type of music i played and he said "oooh. thats spooky. are you trying to scare me" and junk like that. I heard him call me "Darling" in there somewhere along with the word "stalker" and i got more creeped out than before. i told him i had to go and shewed him off the phone. Nothing else happened, but I was kind of weirded out. I've heard stories of female DJs getting creepy calls and having crazy admirers. This is scarier than it sounds as until recently the stations electronic door locks were inoperable and often times a dj will be in the station alone.
....ehhh, anyway. just wanted to share incase something happens down the line. I'm glad I'm slated for a different timeslot in about a week.
I've also been contacting a lot of one man bands lately and discovering more and more. Hopefully they send promos of their music out so i can play them. I have begun thinking i can eventually help form a community of such bands and maybe eventually start trying to set up one man band music festivals or something of the sort. That would be excellent!

well firstly, I suppose.....I started enjoying life here a little over my first year. The cold really does thicken your blood, though I am still very much a warm blooded heat lovin' gal, and can rarely leave the house without a scarf. But really I started liking it becase I stopped feeling sorry for myself. Yes, I also do in fact LOVE the sun and the beach....but the cities here..... there is SO much to do, and it's inexpensive and people are AWESOME, rarely do I come across the high snobbery that I got in cali. This little place is so underated....it's an awesome place for music, movies, art, food, everything. The Walker art museum alone makes it amazing, but then there are tons of venues, communities, co-ops, bike trails, festivals, there is honeslty never a boring moment here. It's super-duper great!! And you would never know it, which makes it all the better.
but hey maybe you could come for a visit......though I'm not sure where you could stay....but still you could meet all the cool people here, and knowing "minnesota nice" I'm sure someone would let you in.......but i'm glad you feel the way you do. you know? yer super-duper too. heh.
