Mmm. So this cleansing thing has been going on much longer than I planned. Which is great. I'm starting to become obsessed about nutrition and what I put into my body. That's what she said. But seriously. Just thought I would share a little. One change i've made is going from vegetarian to carnivore(only chicken and turkey, no beef). I've been veggie(pescatarian if you want to nitpick) for about 9 years so I thought the shift would take a while, but it was pretty easy and my digestive system didn't get the shock I was expecting. It seemed pretty natural, and I think it's helping me build muscle on my legs. I make sure to buy chicken breasts only, and make sure they are not fed antibiotics or hormones. I wanted a source of protein that's not so polluted by humans. I ate fish before that, but I read a study about how terrible our oceans are getting with toxic metals, plastics, etc. It's pretty gross and i'm sad the next generation gets to deal with it. SORRY. So anyways. I feel so great, and I think it's probably cause 1) I quit drinking&smoking, and 2) I started eating cleansing foods and taking supplements. Sadly much of my social life has vanished, as will happen with any major change you make in your life. But I figure the rebuilding of that will be for the better anyhow. Here are probably some of the best foods i'm eating so far.
BROCOLLI.
Yum. An unbelievable amount of calcium(more than milk), and surprisingly, protein. And a ton of vitamins, potassium and selenium. All of which are awesome for your energy and circulation. I have a terrible habit of snacking for no reason, so I'm sure I have a lot of this on hand all the time because it's one of those awesome snacks that fills you up and takes more calories to digest than it provides. Yet gives you tons of benefits. It's kind of like, RAW on it's own. Sometimes dipping it in dressing helps if it makes me bored.
GARLIC CLOVES, RAW.
Jesus christ. If you can stomach this, I would. I've been cutting it up into chunks and swallowing it whole. It's supposed to help circulation and clear out bad cholesterol(though I don't really need to worry about this, i've been a veggie for 9 years!, but since im eating more cholesterol foods, I count this as a plus.) Also it fights fungus infections ANYWHERE on your body. Athletes foot, yeast infection, etc. I would make sure you're single when you take raw Garlic like this, it makes you stinky. It's good to take before bedtime. A good substitute for garlic that has pretty much the same properties is ginger. I think i'll switch to ginger once I run out of garlic so I can get a girlfriend one day. Cross fingers, knock on wood.
CHICKEN.
I have no morals anymore, I know. Spare me the lecture. It's a great, cheap(er) source of protein and yummy with the right seasoning. You can put some of the garlic on this! Om nom nom! Birdy flesh!
TOAST.
I couldn't give up toast ever. I love it. But now I eat it with whole grain bread, or spelt bread&margarine with no trans fat instead of shitty bread&normal butter&jam. I also started putting honey on top. OMG so F'n yummy. Honey is really good for you and is sweeter than normal sugar!
HEALTH SHAKE.
I use Alive whole food energy shake. I'm not advertising for it but shit, it has so much of your necessary vitamins, omega-6's and amino acids, its ridiculous. It's 'spensive though. Make sure to read reviews on any health shake or health bar you get. There are so many scummy bastards & companies in the health food industry.
SPIRULINA.
Spirulina is a blue green algae(yeah the stuff that builds up in a fish tank, YUMMY) that has insane amounts of protein(more than beef), tons of vitamin A, Iron, B Vitamins and amino acids. You could probably live on the stuff if it weren't so weird tasting. It's best to get it in tablets rather than capsules so you dont burp it up. Gross. Earthrise probably makes the best kind of spirulina, cause it's all they specialize in. DO NOT get GNC brand Spirulina, it is shit. GNC sucks in general.
GINGKO.
I just added this to my regiment; it's great for circulation apparently. Have heard it's good for circulation to your brain but I can't really say for sure whether it does for me. But it can't hurt, right?
WATER!
I hate it cause it's tasteless. Damn. BUT. In order to get any benefit from any of the above stuff, you need water. So I drink plenty. 64 oz a day is the smallest amount you should get. And don't drink it all at once. Drink it through the day.
If anyone has any suggestions i'd love to hear!
