A few weeks ago my dog, Duke, suddenly became weak. I took him to work for x-rays and we saw his spine was getting worse and pinched a nerve. I increased his nerve pain meds [gabapentin] and it helped a little. He stopped eating. I was going to try acupuncture but we did bloodwork first because I noticed something was off. He has a history of kidney disease but it was very early and under control, his labwork was great at the end of January. We did bloodwork in house yesterday and he was in full blown kidney failure. It was sudden. I could have put him on diuresis but it would have only prolonged the inevitable. He was completely miserable with both his back and now his kidneys shutting down.
I had to make a decision and it was not easy. I put my baby pup to sleep today. He was so tired and he had given up. I couldn't watch him suffer anymore. I have cried so much in the last 36 hours. I will miss him so much.
