Today turned out pretty much as I anticipated: BUSY!
Checked in all my surgeries first thing, I had 6. I had a laceration repair, abscess drain, 2 tumor removals, a dental cleaning, and a dog neuter. The laceration repair was on a 103lb Cane Corso Mastiff, he decided to climb me as he received his sedation [I was the only person restraining him] so now I have fresh bruises on my thighs and one on my shoulder. Everything else was fairly routine except the dental cleaning. She needed several teeth extracted and it took 2 hours. I monitored the dog while the doctor removed teeth. While that happened, one of my recovering surgeries vomited, ok it happens. I asked for help and was told 'I'll be right back'...they never came back. So I'm holding this drooly, vomit covered Maltese in one arm and cleaning her puke with the other. Vomit doesn't gross me out anymore at this point in my career, but this was smelly, even through my surgical mask. My 'help' comes back after I've cleaned everything, she mopped the floor but failed to clean the barf that was running down the front of the cage below and that ran inside it.
Finally the afternoon crew arrives, hooray! I pass off my recovering dental and anesthetize my last surgery. While prepping, doc comes in and asks 'weren't you supposed to leave at 3?' Oops, it's 3:30 and I technically should have taken a break. I was going to stay, but she told me to get out and get home [in the best way though!] Don't have to tell me twice after how the last 2 days went!
So home I went. Now I'm showered and clean. I didn't think I had enough body wash to get the grime off. Did I mention I was sprayed twice with bloody fluid? And that I had gotten vomit on my face from the above incident? I forgot to, didn't I? Well I did 😂 I think I may have a cocktail tonight. Only one since I have to work Saturday morning. And as much as I wanted to have a cute, sexy pic to go with this blog, all I could muster was a half smile in the beautiful sunshine and 64 degree weather [it is February in Chicago, isn't it?]
