Alas I just got back from Cali and it's been a while since I posted... I'm on my way to NYC next week for a wedding and the CMJ conference. My old college roommate works at capitol records in LA and she hooked me up with guest passes! We are both gonna be in NYC at the same time so it should be fun. I'm still busting my ass on getting booked spinning around Seattle. I've got two gigs coming up a Halloween party on the 24th and a rave on the 25th. I'm pretty stoked about the rave because I'm gonna get to open for Flave who is one of the only Seattle DJs I really dig. I just bought a CD today. It's been a long time since I've done that. I'm so addicted to downloading, ripping and remixing or buying music on vinyl. Anyway I got the James Lavelle Global Underground 2cd set. It's freaking awesome! I've been listening to my BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix UNKLE bootleg for so long now that I just needed to get more James Lavelle when I saw it. I really like that he mixes so many different genres all together. Thats also what I like about Flave, the Bassbin Twins, Thievery Corp, Lo-fidelity Allstars and even Fatboy Slim. Fuck genre limitations. Music is motherfucking music and too many DJs get stuck in some obscure facet of an undeard of genre. They are playing for themselves and not for thier audience. Fuck that. When you ask someone, hey what kind of music they listen to they will usually say, "oh, anything but country." So why the fuck don't these DJs broaden their horizons? Well most of them aren't creative enough. They think they are pioneers but they ain't doing anything unique. Every mix follows the exact same format and is exactly the same. Each song is the same speed and they are all in the same genre. *sigh* If anyone else agrees or disagrees with my thoughts let me know what you think! Especially DJs though anyone with an opinion about mixing is welcome to respond. Peace outside...
