So yesterday since Ariel was feeling poorly we went out with Julia, and sang karaoke and ate at the karaoke boxes. Ariel didn't sing any songs, but we spent a fun hour and a half eating plates of sausage and singing themes from anime and anything H!P we could think of. After that Ariel went back to the hotel, and I made a trip to the 100 Yen Store, where everything costs 100 yen, of course. It wasn't the best 100 yen store I'd ever been to, and I felt a bit sad because it was filled with people speaking Chinese and Korean. (They were mostly buying dishes and food. Japanese people love a bargain, but if you can afford to live in Tokyo, you can generally afford not to shop there. I didn't even find out about these stores until I lived in Kanazawa, where there are many of them and they are insanely popular.) After buying a few items, I went to the drugstore to get some minty eyedrops for my dad, then headed home, where I went to sleep.
Today I went to the convenience store, and it's about 4pm. The streets are practically empty today. Ariel is feeling very bad and hasn't left the hotel room. She is worried about having to go through quarantine instead of leaving for home tomorrow, which would be terrible. We're supposed to go to Asakusa if she feels well enough, but I really can't go there alone. (It will be super crowded.) We're going to stay in for New Year's. I'm going to my host family's house tomorrow, and all the stores close tomorrow and won't be open until after I leave. (Which is good because my bags are full.) I did some repacking last night, which worked out okay, I think.
So we watched Hana Yori Dango, and if we end up not going to Asakusa today I'm going to head to the bookstore to buy many Novala books, since I can't do so tomorrow. I also need to buy a ticket for the Narita Express train to the airport. I am super worried about that train filling up and me missing my flight. But I doubt a lot of people will be travelling on the 2nd.
