The day before, after hitting Mosburger we stayed home and finished watching Densha Otoko, then watched Shimotsuma Monogatari. Yesterday was the Duel Jewel concert, and prior to the concert we dressed up in our Gothic Lolita finery and strolled around Harajuku. (Gwen Stefani pronunciation: Herajuku. I hate you, Gwen Stefani. You have ruined Japan.)
We had a bite to eat at a very fancy cafe, which served us our own individual teapots of fruit tea. We were in heaven, and as Novala would say, it was an elegant Lolita outing of the finest caliber. My host sister Nahomi called my cell and said she couldn't meet us on the 31st due to New Years family obligations. She arranged to meet us at Harajuku, and brought us a gift of dorayaki. I told her we were all EGL-ed out, and I think part of the reason was because she wanted to see us that way. She met us after we bought gifts for the band at Kiddyland. I bought one for the drummer, just to be silly (I'd never seen the band live before). Nahomi helped us find a post office ATM, and also assisted us on the train to Urawa, which took forever. We finally said our goodbyes to her and found the live house by following some guys who were on their way there.
There were 8 bands playing, and we got there as the third band went on. Duel Jewel played last. I'd never been to a concert with Japanese bands in Japan (I'd only seen Bowie and Weezer here), so I was very impressed at the parapara, and the predesignated front lines. It was almost a full girl audience, and many of them headbanged. For the most part, the other bands sucked and the girls were friendly. It was Duel Jewel's singer Hayato's birthday, so everyone sang Happy Birthday and had little birthday poppers. One of them gave slips of paper to all the fans so they could write birthday wishes on them, which she collected in a little book. After the performance, which was amazing, Ariel bought some photos, and we gave the staff the presents we had bought. Then we took a very expensive cab ride to the hotel and ate Mosburger again, then with all intentions of going out again that night, accidentally fell asleep.
Today we're going to Ebisu so I can show Ariel the view of Mt. Fuji and also to Ginza for tea. A lazy sort of day.
