Since I am all about Japanese Studies, probably my favorite thing in the world is reading the little signs and notices posted around Japan explaining to everyone how they do things. For example, I am pretty sick today, and just woke up recently (around 2pm). There's a note here that says "Please give us your requested to make up your room" and tells me that rooms won't be cleaned after 2:30pm. There are a million signs on the bathrooms saying not to flush gum or anything but toilet paper down the toilet. And there was a sign at the maid cafe which said you had to buy at least one drink an hour. Hilarious.
As I said before, I feel like crap. Yesterday was Crazy Lolita Shopping Day, though. We went to Marui Young, and there was a line waiting for the store to be opened. We got in line, and received a ticket for an event. The ticket led us to a small store which sold lucky bags (in this store they called them Happy Packs...they are basically grab bags) for almost every store in the building. Who can pass up a bargain? These had about $500 worth of stuff apiece for $150 or less. I bought one from Metamorphose and Heart E, and Ariel bought 2 from Black Peace Now, the Meta one, and another one. We were both very happy with what they had in them. The Heart E one is all accessories, but has AMAZING pieces. One of Ariel's had a full COAT inside. The Meta had a blouse, 2 sets of bloomers, and a dress...mine was pink.
After that we went to Moi Meme Moitie just to check it out. The sign said somehing like "Elegant Gothic Lolita Vampire Romance." I don't remember the whole thing. But it was hilarious and waaaaay too Goth for me. Personally I really like Sweet Lolita, but I never buy any of the pieces. Most of my stuff is black and white Maid Lolita, which is my true love. After stops at Baby and Meta, where I bought THE DRESS, we felt some overspending remorse and returned home to examine our haul. I talked about creating a Yu-Gi-Oh! style card system to organize our pieces. I also talked about opening a Lolita store in Chicago after I graduate...something I can actually use my Japanese skills for.
I called my host family and I'm going to meet them tomorrow! Then we went out for dinner (yakiniku, we are addicted) and bought the 1000 yen all you can drink in 2 hours campaign (not to mention the 2800 all you can eat, which owned us after about 3 servings). Drunkenly, we went to karaoke. This morning I woke up in a cold sweat and it is boiling in this room. I had stomach problems, and I'm just beginning to feel better. Ariel is out with a friend and will call me around 3pm, when I will probably meet her at Harajuku. I wish I hadn't missed half a day here sleeping, but otherwise, things might have gotten worse, I suppose.
No word from my host sister Nahomi. She might still be in Germany. I'll call her tomorrow.
