Someone I met recently is on her own and just had cancer surgery. She has no one available 24 hours a day, she has a couple of girlfriends who can help her out but if she needs something when they are working she is in trouble.
I have been on call and had to drive her to the ER as some minor problems that seemed worse than they actually were. She called me and I was there in 10 minutes and she was in panic and still having some of the wobbly legs after major surgery and the drugs they have her on for pain. I carried her to the car drove her and was with her the rest of the day.
I got her home and she took her meds and went out like a light. She woke up in the middle of the night and sleeping on her sofa, snoring loudly she said, was me. I was not going to leave her alone after such a scary situation. I would not leave until her girlfriend got there in the morning.
I missed my nightly call to my friend, but the next night we both went there to check on her.
