staring between my knees at the floor
i wonder if i could've done more
i sit on the edge of the bed
with my hands cradling my head
you breathe an exaggerated sigh

i hear your footsteps on the floor
hesitating next to the door
when the sounds of your footsteps are gone
i realize maybe i was wrong
trying not to run after you
